Description
"Gifts from the Sea" was created in my North light studio, from life. The glass bowl of shells is borrowed from my friends. Setting up the background of colored packages is in complete contrast to the natural beauty of the shells. The card on the left (one of my paintings, "The Colony," reproduced) is an invitation to a seaside resort so you can see the ocean and gather shells. Before long you find yourself purchasing presents. It is a delicate balance between what is natural and artificial. At the base, a yellow bill sticks out of an antique drawer box for "Machine Needles," a sign of the past industrial revolution.
The temptation of shells created our first "money", also known as "Waupon." And that is what this little still life is all about.
