Description
Presumably trees are washed down into Moraine Lake (near Lake Louise in Banff National Park Alberta Canada) from the surrounding mountain slopes by avalanches and melting snows. The outflow of the lake is near the ‘rockpile’ so eventually the logs end up here in a huge log jam. It is a popular place for people to pose for photos later in the day but at this foggy early morning hour it was deserted. I tried searching to determine whether logs were ever cleared from this area since it seems like they would pile up faster than they would disintegrate. But I never found an answer. The Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks of Banff, Jasper, Kootenay and Yoho along with three provincial parks comprise a UNESCO World Heritage site. The seven parks of the Canadian Rockies form a striking mountain landscape. With rugged mountain peaks, icefields and glaciers, alpine meadows, lakes, waterfalls, extensive karst cave systems and deeply incised canyons, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks possess exceptional natural beauty, attracting millions of visitors annually.
